Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL)
Car Hire / Rental
(Delhi, India)
Outside the Customs halls at both terminals you will find outlets of Nitin Transport Company. This is the only car hire company represented at the Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL). There is no option for renting self-drive cars at the airport, as these are generally not available in India.
The most convenient way to get around Delhi is by taxi or motorised rickshaw, which can be easily found at any location in the city. Taxis can also be reserved in advance at the pre-paid taxi booths, located in the Arrivals areas of both terminals.
Car Rental, Driving around the city of Delhi
Self-driving in India is not advisable, as driving in the country is dangerous, due to the overall bad driving skills of the population and poor road conditions in remote areas. However, India's national highways are reasonably well maintained. Indian Railways run a gigantic, modern and organised rail network, which connects Delhi to most major and minor destinations within India, making travelling by train ultimately the best way to get around.
In Delhi and the whole of India, you must always drive on the left and an International Driving Permit is required by rental companies. Many people choose to rent a car with a driver, who often also doubles as a guide and interpreter.
